August empties and favorites part 1 – feat. Caudalie, RMS beauty, Klorane, Milani

I’m not ready for the summer to end yet it is almost the end of August and I can’t believe we only have 4 months left in 2016.

In August, I’ve gathered quite a few empties and I wanted to share a few with you guys here with my review.

  • The Caudalie foaming cleanser is one of my favorite cleansers. It is quite mild so I use it in the morning. It has good cleansing power yet it doesn’t dry out my face. The pump is the best I’ve used as it produces a lot of fluffy foam and I was able to use up literally every drop in the bottle with this pump.

Rating: 9/10 for AM cleanser

Will repurchase? Yes

  • I’m back to use the Klorane dry shampoo despite its overwhelming smell that I didn’t like. I tried out the Amika dry shampoo earlier and was impressed by its heavenly smell as compared with most dry shampoos on the market but it doesn’t improve the texture and appearance of your hair as the Klorane does. So I guess you have to accept a tradeoff between results and smell when it comes to dry shampoo.
  • I didn’t like the Estee Lauder cleanser as it dries out my face and I had to get rid of the Essie nail polish as it’s over a year old and darker nail polish shades don’t look good on me.

  • The RMS beauty UN powder is okay. I bought it after seeing how Kathleen Lights raved about it, saying how it blurs out all the imperfections on her face and makes her skin look so beautiful and flawless. I guess it’s just her skin and this powder doesn’t really stand out.

Rating: 7/10 (given that there are so many cheaper powder out there that does the job)

Will repurchase? No

  • Milano blush in the shade Luminoso

I love the color so much! It’s sitting between red and coral and it makes me look younger on my fair skin with yellow undertone. It’s very pigmented so you’d want to be careful and tap off the excess powder on your brush if you are looking for a more natural look. But it’s not as intense as the Wet n’Wild one so it can be worn on an everyday basis. It lasts about 7 hours on my face with setting spray.

Rating: 8/1 0 (it had become  my favorite drugstore blush now)

Will repurchase? Yes.

Hope you find it helpful and thanks for stopping by:)

Hard Candy $6 setting spray and $8 strobing kit review

I’ve never used Hard Candy products as they are only sold at Walmart and I thought it would be crazy to go to Walmart just for the two things I wanted to try but I did… So here are the two things I bought and I’ve been testing these out in the past 2 weeks. I posted the same pictures on Instagram too (HealthyGlow_Ing is my Instagram handle).

So first the setting spray. Hands down the best drugstore setting spray! You need to get it if you haven’t tried it. It has a great spray nozzle which gives out an even mist and doesn’t come out too harsh that you need to hold it an arm away from your face as some others do. It has a gentle cucumber smell that doesn’t stay on your face. And most importantly it definitely creates a difference of how long the make up lasts on my face.

Overall rating: 4.5/5

Will I repurchase: a happy yes!

Then the strobing kit. The box and display of products are cute. I bought it mostly for its convenience as it’s really more of a contour blush all-in-one kit with a contour shade, a blush shade, and two highlighter shades, one champagne and one icy shade.

What I like the most from this kit:

  • The peachy warm tone blush shade is great! It is highly pigmented and lasts quite a few hours. It is a shade that works on most skin tone.
  • The brush included in the kit is a good quality one, very soft and picks up an okay amount of products, which doesn’t come often in a kit under $10. But don’t expect it to perform as a high-end brush as that’s just unfair 🙂 It’s good enough for a natural look.

What I found okay:

  • The contour shade is a nice shade between warm and cool tone, maybe more towards cool tone. It shows up on my skin when I use a different brush and apply a few coats. It is probably the least pigmented shade in the kit so it will not work for medium or deeper skin tone. I like the color though for contour, not for bronzing.

What I’m not so in love with:

  • The two highlighter shades definitely will show up on your skin and add a layer of sheen. However, I found that you can’t pack on too much or it will become a bit patchy. It’s probably because because they are too finely milled and have quite some powder fall off. So definitely not the best highlighter powder out there even within the drugstore price range.

Overall rating: 3.5/5

Will  repurchase? Prob not.

Overall I’m glad I tried out the Hard Candy products and found a good makeup setting spray. If you wanna try it and don’t have a Walmart near your place, you can try their recently launched 30-day free shipping program or you can always get these on Amazon or eBay from a third party seller maybe at a slightly higher price.

Have you tried any Hard Candy makeup?

One simple tip around applying blush!

Hey guys! I recently came across these cute make-up illustrations that showcase the most complementing blush shape for different facial features and I wanted to share these with you.

The key: the way celebrities and Youtubers apply their blush may not be the best approach for you. You may want to try customizing the way you apply the blush depending on the shape of your face. How? Here are the 4 simple ways to do it.

I found it really easy to follow and helpful. What do you think? Do you have other tips around applying blush? What’s your recent obsession of blush?

Colour pop lip, blush and eye pencil review

There has been a lot of buzz of the Los Angeles makeup brand Colour Pop and I finally decided to give it a try.

I don’t and can’t do any dramatic look so I picked three items out of the best sellers that can work for an everyday look.

$5 1 oz
It also comes with a matching lip pencil which I didn’t get.

The lipstick comes in a paper case that was loosely open in the package, which was a bit disappointing. But the product itself looks cute with an ivory plastic tube that feels thicker than most of the drugstore lipsticks.

It’s more on the coral, warm side than nude that I had thought of and is highly pigmented. Very easy to apply and creamy. It isn’t particularly hydrating but doesn’t dry out my lips either. I’ve included the color swatch at the end of the post.

Overall: B+ (I wasn’t particularly impressed with the loose case in the package and the shade difference between the actual product and the picture).

$8 1.5 oz

It comes in a nice little paper case and the plastic case feels of good quality similar to that of the lipstick. The color is a bit darker than how it was depicted on the site, which is a plum pink with cool undertone and a satin finish. It is a creamy blush, and easy to apply with finger tips. Downside: It doesn’t show on my cheek until after maybe 2-3 layers of build up, which adds sheer to my face. So it is more of a subtle blush that could work for everyday look, but probably not for other occasions that ask for more brighter shades.

Overall: B+ (you need to layer on the blush for it to show, which becomes a bit harder to control. I think it probably works better for very fair skin with cool undertone).

 $5 1oz

It is not a best selling product on the site but it’s my favorite out of the three. It’s exactly what I’m looking for: a dark brown gel cream liner that slides on easily and is matte, non shining and perfect for everyday use. It’s not water proof so you can wash it out with your regular cleanser. But for the same reason, you might want to avoid using it in summer or to the beach as I can see it smudging with sweat or water.

Overall: A- (the minus is for the loose paper case, yes, again 😦 Colour Pop needs to pay more attention to shipping and packaging I think).

Here are the actual products’ photos and color swatch on my arm.

Overall, I like the products as they seem to stand out among makeup lines in the same price range in terms of design, pigmentation and marketing. I do think packaging and shipping can be improved – no more loose paper cases please! Shipping is a bit slow. It took me almost 2 weeks to get the package with the $4.99 flat shipping rate in US.

Have you tried their products? What do you think?
