If you’ve not yet heard of the Ordinary brand (under Deciem), where have you been in the past few months 🙂 If you have, you’re probably aware that one of their best sellers the 7% Glycolic acid toning solution (which is considered a dupe for Pixi Glow Tonic or other more high-end acid toners) has been out of stock for months everywhere. I’ve been wanting to try it out and just placed an order on the official site. You can read more about it and place an order when you are ready before it goest out of stock again here.
How can June already be over and we are officially into the 2nd half of 2016? This doesn’t feel real and kind of sad as summer is probably going to be over before we know it. But good news is that I’m going to be getting a GREAT box from Allure monthly subscription ($15 per month, $10 for your first month).
Allure keeps me hooked with the quality of products they curate for their boxes. Honestly, I think it’s the best box in the market for skincare maniacs at this price point. You can see the June & May box content here & here.
So the July box is in collaboration with Nordstrom which has a great selection of skincare products and not surprisingly, they’ve done a fantastic job for selecting products that have amazing reviews and all from well-known brands. Here are the items included in the July box:
- Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II (7 ml). I’ve almost used up the big bottle I have.
- La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream (a small sample jar from the video) – This is a luxury treat ($170 for an 1oz jar). It is not as rich and heavy as the classic cream, and it’s the perfect day/night cream for summer time on combination & sensitive skin)
- Glam Glow Supermud Clearing Treatment (I’ve been wanting to try this and am so happy that it’s in the box)
- Smashbox Photofinish Primer (I’ve used this before and it’s very effective for oil control)
- Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm (moisturizing, comfortable, and this one is in a versatile sheer rosy shade yay)

What do you think?
So I was just taking another route from the office to the subway station and my eyes were caught by a lovely display of Wet n’ Wild products through a window of an otherwise so normal Duane Reade and I stepped in naturally. For someone who lives on the East coast, you understand my delightful surprise feeling, right?
And when I was in the beauty section of the store, I was truly surprised. I remember I read in news a while ago that Walgreens (aka Duane Reade, same business entity) was planning to revamp some of its stores’ beauty sections but this is the first store I’ve actually seen with the new installation.
- There are testers out on display.
- The lighting was bright.
- Each brand is displayed in a Sephora/Ulta type of layout.
- There are also makeup removers and cotton pads for you to test different products and shades.
It is such a step up from Walgreen! I don’t think I’m going to the dim and crowded CVS ever again which is the only other drugstore near by.
The most exciting thing is that they have brands like theBalm, PurMineral, Cargo, 100% pure, Boots Botatics etc.which I can’t find anywhere else except for certsin Ulta stores far away from my home.
Have you seen any similar changes to your Walgreen stores? Is it fairly recent?
Lastly I got my Walmart beauty box and it’s fun! With only $5 per quarter, $20 per year, it’s well worth the little joy from time to time. I mean you can’t even buy a sandwich for $5.
This is an age where subscription services thrive and die at the same time. There are all kinds of subscription boxes covering a wide range of our everyday life including but not limited to beauty, food, snacks, books, gadgets. You name it, they have it. So I am usually immune to new subscription boxes now.
However, I still got excited when I learned that the French luxury beauty brand Sisley Paris has jumped on the beauty sample wagon and has come out with a monthly subscription plan. You can either pay $10 per month for a 6-month plan or save with an annual plan of $100. 5 samples are included in each month’s box.
If you’ve never used Sisley products before, it’s a high-end skincare brand with botanic ingredients. I’ve tried only a few of their products as they are very pricey in the US (I probably will load up my cart if I go to France as it’s much cheaper there). I love everything I’ve tried including their toner, facial mask and eye cream. In my opinion, their products live up to the hype (not a lot lately) and their claims. A brightening mask will actually brighten your skin after only a few uses and an anti-wrinkle cream will smoothen your fine lines. To be honest, so many skincare products work like placebo as you can’t tell whether they work and you apply them only for the sake of going through your skincare routine.
Here are the five samples included in this month’s plan:

If you haven’t yet found a skincare product that you can see visible results, keep looking and if you are interested to try out brands like Sisley, a $10 monthly subscription is a great way to test their lines without spending hundreds of dollars upfront. I am sold on this service. What do you think? What other skincare subscription service do you recommend?
Thanks for stopping by!

Hey guys! I received the 50% off site wide sales alert email from theBalm cosmetics and I’m so excited!
I wanted to share with you what I’m thinking of getting tomorrow if the site doesn’t crash (fingers crossed).
For those of you who are not familiar with the brand, theBalm is a relatively new brand based in SF and is known for its natural ingredients (paraben free, cruelty-free), great formula, and sassy packaging! It may not have a huge follower base as more well known brands but most of its products have great reviews!
I think its price is between drugstore and high-end. That’s why a 50% off sale is so appealing as you are getting high quality products at affordable prices. And it’s SITE-WIDE!
I’m thinking of getting 2 products. Yeah only 2 but 2 that I’ve been eyeing on for a while.
I’m linking it to the Kohl’s site as theBalm site is already having issues 😦
I’m always up for multi-purpose products! And this color is georgeous for the summer. Everyone needs a warm layer of golden glow in the sun. I am particularly drawn to this product by its silky texture. It’s supposed to go on your skin so effortlessly that it’s fool-proof for blending. If you are relatively new to the whole bronzer game, I think this is the perfect pick for you. The below swatch picture is from Temptalia. You can also read the full review here.
Did you notice how they always give their products really cute names 😉 I am not a beauty hoarder in general but I have obsessions over certain categories of products and makeup remover is one of them (wierd? I know!)
I alternate between 5-8 makeup removers at any moment and am always looking for new ones to try. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this eye makeup remover balm mostly for its effectiveness at melting away all makeup including waterproof mascara and how it is so gentle for sensitive eyes! A lot of makeup removers burn my eyes so badly including the Sephora brand, Simple makeup remover water, and Dr. Jart micro water. I also like the balm texture as it will not dry out skin around my eye area. And its natural ingredient list is a big plus for me as I don’t want harsh chemicals to be used around my eyes!
If you wanted to try their eye and cheek products, they also have really beautiful palletes. The shadows are highly pigmented and blend beautifully with natural ingredients.
I need to stop writing now or I will be tempted to buy more than I need 😀
Hope this might be helpful to you. Let me know your thoughts!
